A New Vessel for Montenegrin Maritime Safety Department (UPS) Almost Built: building of a new specialized boat aimed for search and rescue operations at sea (SAR), which is being built at the “Navar” shipyard in Tivat for the needs of Montenegrin Maritime Safety Department (UPS), should be completed soon. Placing of this 12, 2 meters long vessel into service will improve safety of navigation in Montenegrin territorial waters.
Tivat – Building of a new specialized boat aimed for search and rescue operations at sea (SAR), which is being built at the “Navar” shipyard in Tivat for the needs of Montenegrin Maritime Safety Department (UPS), has entered its’ final stage.
This vessel, which is being built in “Navar” in cooperation with the engineers and welders of a specialized company from Canada, had her engines built in these days. What remains is the setting up of installations.
This new vessel, with full equipment, is worth Euro 500,000. It has been projected by a prominent company - “Ivan Erdevicki Naval Architecture & Yacht Design” - which is owned by Herceg Novi’s native, Ivan Erdevicki who now works in Canadian city of Vancouver.
Maritime Safety Department new boat will have length of 12, 2 meters and width of 4, 4 meters. It is made of aluminum. Boat is equipped with sophisticated electronic equipment and a life-safety boat. With two so called water propulsions, it will be powered by two “Yanmar” diesel engines, with full power of 680 HPs. Its’ maximum speed will reach 35 knots.
New vessel, which should start its’ service within a month and a half meets all international standards for search and rescue operations at sea, when it comes to its’ speed, draft and its’ maneuverability.
Besides saving human lives, its’ aim is also to drag smaller vessels in need to nearest ports.
With the introduction of this new SAR vessel, UAR will significantly improve its’ ability to ensure safe navigation in our territorial waters, as this boat is built with the aim to allow the quickest and most efficient response to situations which require search and rescue actions.
Up until now, UPS has used, in most occasions, boats of Harbor Safety Guards, as well as vessels of the Port of Bar or those owned by private owners. When the situation called for it, search and rescue operations have also been assisted by the vessels of Montenegrin police and the Army.
