Visit-Montenegro.com : Jeep Rally on a 120-Kilometer Track

Traditional tourist and sports event – jeep-rally “Montenegro Trophy” – will take place for 13th time this Saturday and Sunday, it has been stated at a press conference held yesterday. The track is 120 kilometers long and goes through areas of Niksic – Zupa – Prekornica – Maganik – Lukavica – Niksic. More than 70 crews from Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina announced their participation.

The track is 120 kilometers long and goes through areas of Niksic – Zupa – Prekornica – Maganik – Lukavica – Niksic. More than 70 crews from Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina announced their participation.

“Participation-fee is Euro 60 for the participants who will stay over night, while those from Niksic pay Euro 40.

Thanks to transport company “Montena Max”, an exhibition of photos of this summer’s rally will be put on display on Saturday. Photographs were take by famous photographers, including Tomislav Peternek, Milan Zivkovic and Marija Milovanovic-Maksimovic”, director of the Rally, Luka Maksimovic said.

In words of Rally’s Technical Director, Rade Minic, goal of this rally is to pick the fines crew and the winner of both section of the competition.

“First part has to do with orientation driving, while the second part explores the skills of drivers at the training ground. Also this time, competitors will face unknown number of control points which will have to be reached by the competitors within the prescribed time, trying to keep up to the average speed”, Minic state, adding that rally did not have much to do with speed, “rather with preciseness and safety.”

First place will be won by a driver and the crew which has the smallest number of penalizing points. Participants can compete in one or more disciplines, if that is what they wish to do.

“I must emphasize that part of the track will include the route which is hardly familiar to anyone. It is part of the Prekornica-Maganik sections and “Stitovo- Lutovo”, Minic added.

Out of 120 kilometers of track, around 50 are not covered with asphalt.

“These 50 kilometers go through an impressive landscape and an area which is most attractive. Among other thing, participants will have a chance to see a so called ‘geological mosaic’, which are specific geological formation located in the area of Zupa and Maganik.

This are has been exposed to glaciers in the past, so that layers of ice, sometimes even 150 meters thick, created glaciers with their melting”, Goran Barovic said, adding that this is a ruthless region, covered in rocks, but with fascinating natural wealth, nevertheless.
