Montenegro’s Delegation at Global Congress in Barcelona:
Barcelona (MINA) – Protection of nature and preservation of biodiversity has a significant place in the national politics of environmental protection, Montenegrin Minister of Tourism and Environmental Protection, Predrag Nenezic stated in Barcelona.
Nenezic has spoken at the opening of the World Congress for the Protection of Nature, organized by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). He emphasized the importance of the regional development in achieving the goals by year 2010 in terms of biodiversity preservation.
Nenezić also emphasized the importance of the creation of conditions for Program of Protected Areas, both in regional and in national terms.
“Montenegro, as a member of Dinar Arch Initiative, recognizes as its’ priority institutional capacity building, harmonization of its’ legal framework with EU’s legislation, improvements in the system of management of protected areas and cross-border cooperation”, Nenezic maintained.
He added that it was crucial, in relation to this matter, to ensure the implementation of ecosystem approach and the principle of prevention, especially with the aim to enlarge protected areas, including marine and coastal protected areas, as well as introduce management structure over these areas and interconnect them through setting up of regional network of protected areas.
Nenezic expects that participation in the work of IUCN’s expert bodies and forums will assist further development of national capacities.
He announced that, following the delivery of the official note at the end of the Congress, Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Protection would become an official member of IUCN.
