Montenegro at IUCN’s World Congress in Barcelona for the first time: Government delegation, headed by the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Protection, Predrag Nenezic had numerous meetings yesterday with the representatives of international organizations dealing with the protection of nature and preservation of biodiversity. Meetings took place at the World Congress of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which is taking place in Barcelona till 9 October.
Podgorica – Government delegation, headed by the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Protection, Predrag Nenezic had numerous meetings yesterday with the representatives of international organizations dealing with the protection of nature and preservation of biodiversity. Meeting took place at the World Congress of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which is taking place in Barcelona till 9 October.
“During these talks, Minister Nenezic presented the Action Plan, which defines measures and activities on the implementation of decisions endorsed on the ministerial level about the biological diversity, which have to do with its’ preservation till 2010 and implementation of program about the especially protected areas.
During the afternoon part of the Congress, delegation of Montenegro took part at the official opening of the 4th IUCN’s Congress, which is, this year, taking place on the 60th anniversary of the foundation of this oldest and greatest environmental network.
On this occasion, IUCN’s president, Voli Mosa and IUCN’s Director, Julia Morton Lefever, discussed the results of IUCN’s many years of experience and its’ activates across the world.
It has been emphasized that current moment demands from each individual on the planet to behave in the responsible manner, which will go well beyond concerns about endangered species, groups of species or their habitats”, statement from the Ministry reads.
Last night, at the deck of “Jadran” sailing ship, which headed the fleet of some 100 vessels from across the world at the parade which has been set up to mark the anniversary of the IUCN, another anniversary took place: 75th ‘birthday’ of region’s oldest sailing boat.
“Heads of the IUCN and numerous guests have been greeted by Minister Nenezic and Deputy Minister of Defense, Drasko Jovanovic. They emphasized that marking of the anniversary of this ship, which is a symbol of duration and connections between the regions, people and cultures, coincides with IUCN’s 60th anniversary, which has a symbolic significance for Montenegro.
Minister Nenezic delivered a note to the Director of the IUCN, on the intent of Montenegro to seek membership in this organization.
Delegation of Montenegrin government will, apart from its’ participation at IUCN’s forum, arrange a round table dedicated to the presentation of natural wealth and biological biodiversity of Montenegro which will also take place at ‘Jadran’”, statement of the Ministry concludes.
