Tivat – During past nine months, 4,042 airplanes landed at Tivat airport, which is by 14,7 percent better results in comparison to the same period last year, Airport management stated yesterday.
Until the end of the third quarter of this year, 515,786 passengers have been transferred through Tivat’s airport, witch is by 0,59 percent lower than during the reference period in 2007.
Reason for such drop has to do with the change of the physical shape of the traffic and the decision of the Montenegrin air-traffic authorities to ban landing of Russian “Ilusin II-86” jumbo-jet-type aircrafts to Tivat’s airport, as well as smaller Tupolev’s “TU-154.” As the reason for this ban, authorities quoted alleged necessity to decrease noise levels.
Instead of flying over in huge “Ilusin’s”, which can carry 350 passengers each, tourists from Russian arrived to Tivat this year with the greater number of aircrafts of smaller capacity. This explains the increase of the number of serviced aircrafts and nearly identical number of passengers.
During September of this year, 614 planes landed at Tivat, which is by 23, 5 percent more than during the same month last year. Number of transferred passengers came up to 80,477.
Apart from its’ regular activities, Tivat’s airport is also conducing preparatory activities for the opening of the new building site on the southern side of the airport platform.
During the next four months, Podgorica’s “Crangoraput” will build an additional part of the platform, with dimensions of 156 x 72 meters. This will enable two more parking positions for the planes which have the size of Boeing 737 or Airbus A 320.
At the same time, new part of the platform shall provide space for six aircrafts of the so called general aviation, or business-jets, with wings length of 22 meters. Value of this investment is Euro 1,8 Million.
