Visit-Montenegro.com: Tourism and Culture hand-in-hand

Anastazija Miranovic, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Media:

Graduate in History of Art, Anastazija Miranovic, has been appointed as the Minister of Culture, Sports and Media.

Miranovic is the manager of Gallery “Velisa A. Lekovic” in Bar, and she also lectures on the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management in Kotor as the assistant professor of History of Art and Culture.

She says that as the Minister of Culture, Sports and Media, with the expert help, she will first start with designing the National Programme of Cultural Development which would specify strategic goals in this field.

“Special strategic segment, regarding culture, would be an adequate valorisation and protection of cultural heritage, accompanied by systematization, restoration and conservation of both movable and immovable cultural monuments“, declares Mitrovic.

She points out that the nation’s identity is represented by its culture and that modern nation cannot exist without its history.
In particular, the cultural heritage of one nation needs to be properly implemented into modern trends in culture and only if these are intertwined we can raise our consciousness and achieve further cultural and historical progress.“

Miranovic reminds that development of Montegerin society lies in close relationship between culture and tourism, or in making such a „product“. By this, I refer to the development of cultural tourism with all its forms, from ’Manifestation Culture’ and ’Culture of Spectacle’, through ’Custom Culture’ and its aspects where national history is emphasized as certain cultural and tourist specific phenomenon – says Miranovic.

She stresses as a general fact that culture and sport are the very social branches which connect one nation with the rest of the world.

Miranovic, as the Minister of Culture, Sports and Media, intends to support large number of international cultural and sport projects in which local artists and sportsmen would be involved.

“Regarding this, I would work on developing competitiveness of Montenegrin cultural environment when it comes to international cultural and sport projects in accordance with European standards. Involvement of our advocates of culture: artists and sportsmen in prestigious European and world exhibitions, biennales, festivals and competitions is of high importance.“ – explains Miranovic.

Miranovic believes that sport in Montenegro should be developed into two compatible directions. The first is to support sports in which Montenegro achieves highest results by providing necessary infrastructure and logistics. The second is to improve physical education and to create preconditions for continuous cultivation of physical education.

“I consider physical education as necessity and habit which, among other things, would reduce negative effects of development of modern society”.

Miranovic compares culture of one nation, or a country, to its „identity card“ and says that sport is a significant part of general culture, while media reflects the true state of one society.

“The degree of democracy in one society is the most obvious in terms of country’s relation with media. Freedom of media is the precondition of democracy in modern society. Free citizen is the one who is well-informed,“ Miranovic remarks.

Journalists mushrooming…

Regarding media, Miranovic points out that the present time in Montenegro is complex and that „Cause-effect relation of the public sphere, public interest and public service“ is indispensable.

“Tabloidization of the media, lack of analytical and professional journalism,’transfer’ of employees in media…journalist are mushrooming, and reporting the truth has never been on the lower level. These issues I would address with particular attention. Independence of media, mission, responsibility and duty are of highest priority in media“, says Miranovic.
