Visit-Montenegro.com: Wladimir Klitschko toured Podgorica and Budva
Boxing champion arrived in Montenegro
Only a day after signing the contract which formally ended a four-month saga on the most anticipated heavyweight fight where the champion Wladimir Klitschko will defend his titles against Briton David Haye, the famous Ukrainian arrived in Montenegro.
The younger Klitschko brother has spent all day touring Podgorica and Budva yesterday. The champion, accompanied by the Mayor of Podgorica - Miomir Mugosa, will give a press conference today at 2 p.m. in the capital. Terms of the Klitschko – Haye contract are more or less known to the public. The showhown date for - June 20th - has been officially confirmed. There is a rematches clause in the contract should Haye win, but the venue of the first fight is not nailed down yet. Londoners’ camp awaits…
One thing is for sure, offer coming from the Haye’s camp for the showdown to take place at Chelsea’s stadium doesn’t work for the Ukrainian who has built his professional career in Germany mainly and has German passport.
- There is an open possibility that Montenegro is going to be the fight venue this autumn, and the bout scheduled for June 20th will most probably take place in Germany – said Klitschko yesterday.
However, if it turns out that Wladimir is pleased with what he has seen in Montenegro, prospects of the bout taking place in Podgorica or Budva look promising. Bernd Bönte, Managing Director of the world champion, leaves us guessing.
- We have had four different venue offers in Germany which we had whittled down to one, and three more within Europe to be considered as well – said Bönte in the BBC interview.
The younger of the two famous brothers with his associates visited the boxing club ’Buducnost’ yesterday. The sport hall of this boxing club is the best equipped one in Montenegro. Klitschko seemed pleased with capacity of the hall in Njegos’s Park, where he would most probably be training in case he performs in Montenegro.
Vujicic: It will be spectacular!
„I am thrilled that the high-profile sportsman, intellectual and champion Klitschko came to Montenegro in the first place. If he decides to box here, it would be a tremendous promotion of our country since Madona’s visit. Only world-class event such as this one would make local people think globally. Broadcasters from all around the world would make reports on Montenegro in days and the match itself would be re-run several times,“ said Zoran Vujicic who was Wladimir’s opponent on February 13th 1999.
He believes that the match of the Ukrainian with German passport would overshadow every other event in Montenegro.
- He is at the pinnacle of his career, and this would the greatest sport event as well as opportunity for our sportsmen to see how the true champion looks and acts. It would be good that the first fight against Haye occurs here, since I doubt that there is going to be any rematch. By second round, behemoth Wladimir will kick every thought on rematches out of the Briton. My fight with Wladimir took one minute and two seconds, but I prefer that defeat to every other victory – concluded Vujicic.
