Podgorica - World No 1 heavyweight, the reigning IBF and WBO titleholder, Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko is delighted with Montenegro and wants to defend his titles against the Briton David Haye at ’Pod Goricom’ on June 20.

- It is too early to say that the World Heavyweight Championship fight of the year will take place in Montenegro on June 20. We are working on it. The Mayor of Podgorica and all people who are in charge of organization of the match are willing to make it happen. The reason for my visit is to give a close look at one of possible locations for the match. I’ve got the invitation and came to Montenegro for the first time, but this won’t be the last one and I am certain that by the end of year I am going to have a match here. It is true that there is a big time pressure for match to be organized already in June, and I would like that its venue is Podgorica. Each fight of the Klitschko brothers is broadcast in more than 100 countries worldwide. People from all around the world would find out about Montenegro, and this would generally contribute to integration of your country into the world community. Besides, Montenegro has astonishing nature and incredibly hospitable and beautiful people, and match would promote it as tourist destination – said Wladimir, the younger of the Klitschko brothers at the press conference which was attended by the Mayor Miomir Mugosa and our famous kick-boxer Ivan Strugar.

Wladimir Klitschko made a huge impression on journalists with his answers, his appearance, directness and manners of a true champion.

- It is correct that there is a crisis in the world heavyweight box called „the Klitschko brothers“. I have heard about this here from my friend Ljubisa Mijatovic. And I can say that me and my brother Vitali intend to dominate in the future too. We can hardly wait for one of us to fight the Russian Nikolai Vaulev, when there would be no more questions such as “who is the heavyweight champion, in fact”. Everyone will know that the right answer is “the Klitschko brothers“. There would be no winner in a match between me and my elder brother, a WBC champion, since even the one who celebrates would still be depressed. Besides, this would break our mother’s heart – said Wladimir, the Olympic gold medalist of Atlanta.

The Mayor Mugosa spoke of organizing a grand spectacle.

- Match for the world heavyweight title in boxing goes beyond the importance and boundaries of sport. We are considering organization, but we are well aware that Montenegro lacks experience in organizing such matches. There cannot be any improvisation in organizing match for the real champion. It would be a new challenge and we would have to create necessary conditions. We want this, but we are hosting finals of the Water polo World League in that period and therefore we would have to do a lot in short time-limits. Anyhow, we shall see what our management teams have to say on this. There is enough willingness and aspiration, but demands are probably too high for us now…We spoke about possibility to organize the camp of Klitschko brothers, and the capital city has enough capacity to act as a partner in this project. We went together to see a convenient location at Stari Aerodrom, across the football camp, and things develop towards organizing the match by the end of the year – remarked Mugosa.

Klitschko emphasized that, in case he decide to fight in Podgorica, he will support Ivan Strugar as the great champion in his match late in May.

- I invite all fans of world-class sport to do the same. I will promote this spectacle – said Klitschko.

- I sincerely hope that the match between Wladimir Klitschko and Londoner Haye will take place here. This would be one of major spectacles in the history of Podgorica and Montenegro. People who practice contact sports deserve to see the spectacle live. I would love that he comes to see my match and that we see him fighting and winning a month later – noted Strugar.

Klitschko went to see if the hall of Boxing Club “Buducnost” is suitable for his trainings two nights ago. Surprisingly enough, the Wlad’s meeting with the club’s owner, the greatest Montenegrin boxer of all time- Miodrag Paunovic, was not organized by host.

Klitschko called Zoran Vujicic on the phone

The fact that he is not just a champion but a great man as well, Wladimir proved soon after he has seen his photograph with Zoran Vujicic in Daily Press ‘Vijesti’. He fought Vujicic on February 13th 1999. After hosts have read him the Vujicic’s statement that ‘Wladimir will kick every thought on rematches out of the Briton’, Klitschko got enthusiastic and called Vujicic on the phone. This resident of Niksic suffers from multiple sclerosis.

- We talked quite a while, and it was a friendly conversation. He was sorry for not having time to visit me in Niksic, since he needed to get back home yesterday, but promised that he will come and see me once he comes again to Montenegro. He said that his mother too suffers from multiple sclerosis, and he was delighted to hear that his victories are the best medicine to me – said Vujicic for Daily “Vijesti”.
