Kotor – The play “Apology of Socrates” written by Kostas Varnalis was performed last night in the area of Rimski mozaici (The Roman mosaics) in Risan within the “Teuta” Festival – New Ancient Theatre. On the eve of the performance, this play and its contemporariness were discussed at the press conference. Key speaker was Marinko Vorgic, while actor and director Mirush Kabashi and Alfred Boulati spoke at the conference as well. The play “Apology of Socrates” was patterned by the Greek poet Kostas Varnalis and it was adapted and produced by Mirush Kabashi. The actors in the play are Mirush Kabashi, Alfred Boulati and Domenica Ndeca.
Vorgic says that this play is a documentary pattern and not fictional postulate.
The conflict related to Socrates is simply a historical and civilization incident which conveys multiple meanings until the present day. Kabashi converted this conflict into the play. The text fits in the modern times, but since the events changed and the Balkans underwent transitional phases, Kabashi thought that it would gradually loose its contemporariness. However, this didn’t happen. All conflicts related to tragic end of Socrates’ life have their symbolic foundation in all current events.
In his speech, Mirush Kabashi said that he was greatly honoured that Teuta, after which the festival was named, united Montenegro and Albania. “I am pleased that you have chosen Roman mosaics as the venue of the play. It is very important to us, that the play is performed on the ancient site. I believe that in our circumstances, Socrates is still relevant, especially in these times of conflicts and borders. Regardless of the form in which Socrates appears, the problem is the same. There are those who want to rule and those (people) who are not aware of their responsibilities and therefore they become dependant on the rulers,” Kabashi explains.
Alfred Boulati highlights that he was very pleased with the festival and its ambiance that offers various possibilities. Boulati points out that he hopes that the play “Apology of Socrates” will be given enthusiastic reception by the audience.
The National Theatre of Albania from Tirana is in charge of the production of “Apology of Socrates”.
After the press conference on this Albanian play, actors of the Macedonian Drama Theatre Skopje addressed the press. The play “Alexandar” of the Drama Theatre from Skopje was performed on the summer stage two days ago. They spoke of their characters in the play and their endeavors during the process of the play creation.
