Belgrade-based company takes over the management of public parking lots in the municipality of Tivat: From now on, citizens of Tivat will have to pay for parking service at every car park in the city. Local authorities announce introducing new operator as the best way to overcome the issue of on-street parking in Tivat. The private-public partnership will be a successful method for managing parking lots considering the problem of stationary traffic downtown Tivat.
Tivat – Starting from 1st of July, the company “Parkinzi i garaze” from Belgrade will take over the management of parking lots in the municipality of Tivat since this Belgrade-based company made the best offer on recently closed tenders invited by the local government.
Local authorities are convinced that the private-public partnership will be a successful method for managing the parking lots considering the problem of stationary traffic in downtown Tivat which was frequently criticized by the citizens of Tivat as well as by the guests – respondents in traditional summer tourist polls.
In the next couple of days, the new company established in Tivat by representatives of the company from Belgrade will carry out installation of horizontal and vertical traffic signs on the streets of Tivat. After this, the company will officially start working and respectively take over the management of 839 car parks in Tivat and at the airport.
Apart from the large car park in the Arsenalska Street, where parking service was charged even before, citizens of Tivat will, from now on, have to pay for parking service at every other parking lot along the streets and around apartment buildings downtown.
The municipality hasn’t yet announced how much the service provided by this new city parking operator will be charged, but, according to unofficial information, Tivat will be divided into two zones – yellow and red where different parking regime will be applied.
The residents of the buildings downtown will be given an opportunity to buy monthly parking-ticket at a special price.
So far, the parking service in the Arsenalska Street in Tivat was charged EUR 0.60 per hour at the toll booth.
The city fathers have calculated that by delegating the job of managing and constructing new parking lots and garages to the company from Belgrade, the budget of the municipality of Tivat will have “eight times higher direct benefits” than before when this activity was conducted by JKP Tivat and the municipality has built parking lots by spending its own budget resources.
Local authorities: Best solution to traffic congestion
Local authorities announced that introducing the new operator was the best way to overcome the problem of on-street parking in Tivat. An average parking duration, as far as free-of-charge public car parks are concerned, reached unbelievable 470 minutes.
Furthermore, the number of wrongly parked car was 400 on average. There were 148 available lots on average at the car park in the Arsenalska Street where the parking service is charged.
