Visit-Montenegro.com: “Oxygen” triumphed

Herceg Novi – Regatta “Baosici 2009”, which took place for the third year in succession, gathered a great number of sportsmen, tourists and local sailing enthusiasts last weekend. This popular sport event is traditionally organized by the yachting club “Jovo Dabovic” from Baosici, and it assembled 15 sailboats from all yachting clubs in Boka for this year's competition. Race participants competed in the following categories: cruiser, old timer and hobby.

The overall real-time winner, regardless of the category, was “Oxygen” skippered by Janko Sijerkovic.

According to categories, the fastest were “Tea”, skippered by Ilija Sulaver, sailboat “Biserka” with the skipper Simo Dabovic, “Tromb” owned by Miomir Nikolic, “Alibaba” by Ognjen Kisin and “Galeb” with the skipper Uros Vojvodic at the helm.

Regatta is only one of many events included in the tourism offer of Herceg Novi which was once a sleepy fishing village. Citizens joined their forces with tourist agencies in order to improve offer of this city. At present, there are nearly 800 registered guests in all types of accommodation.

“Regatta marked the beginning of tourism summer in Baosici followed by organization of many events, since it is not well enough anymore to offer guests lodgings, beach and the sea, but they need to be entertained as well” – Vesna Samardzic from the community office noticed.

She admits that the long-time experience which they have in organizing Festivity of Mimosa, Fish and Wine within the greater Mimosa Festival, an event which attracts more than 15.000 visitors on Herceg Novi Riviera in February, comes in handy.

Danica Dabovic, from the tourist agency “Vega Baosici”, pointed out that many tourists have contacted their agency recently asking questions about holiday arrangements but also seeking information about culture and sport events which are organized during the summer months.
