Visit-Montenegro.com: Where was the police when vandals were destroying the town?

The center of Herceg Novi was covered in graffiti this morning. Vandals destroyed recently renovated cultural monument Sat Kula thus sending a bad message and creating negative image of the town. People condemn such wrongdoings and assume that similar activities can be stopped by finding and punishing the offenders. Possible solution would be to install video surveillance system.

Herceg Novi – Yesterday morning Sat Kula, former department store “Mjesovito”, shop “Borovo” and couple of more facades in the centre of Herceg Novi were covered in graffiti “Alone against everybody”, “United forces”, “Blue union”, “Templars”, but also symbols of swastika and peace symbols…

Both citizens and tourists condemn this sort of behaviour wondering where the police was. They are sure that finding and punishing offenders would bring this misbehaviour to an end.

“We have just finished the renovation of the beautiful cultural monument Sat Kula when these savages wrote those graffiti over it. They look very ugly, especially in the middle of the main season and send a bad image of us and our town”, Ante Sternisa said.

Painter and gallerist, Dobrivoje Petrovic, says with condemnation, that in this way the visual image of the town is being destroyed and appeals to the police to do their part of the job.

Goran Skobanovic holds the same opinion adding that all the banks on the square have cameras whose footage can be used.

“We have imported garbage from Europe as well as graffiti. For some other good things it will take us another 20 years”, painter Djuro-Beli Prijic said.
Ljiljana Markovic says that “young people are mostly the ones to create graffiti” and parents and society have to pay more attention to them.

Slobodan Popovic, the director of the Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Herceg Novi reminded that they have invested around one hundred thousand Euros for the renovation of Sat Kula and the facade on former Department store.
That’s why he firmly believes that any kind of vandalism should be energetically fought.

Popovic mentioned also other types of vandalism in Herceg Novi – the destroyed park in Bijela, as well as daily damages in the park near Post office in the centre of Herceg Novi.

“The damages are so high that two completely new parks could be rebuilt with it”, Popovic said.

He is sure that installing video surveillance system could decrease savage acts on public properties and facilities.

Graffiti from stone facades should be removed during the day.
