The construction of 600-meter-long double-leaf bascule bridge on Port Milena might start in October this year, according to forecasts announced in the Directorate of Public Works. While presenting the concept solution, Dusko Bobera from “DB Inzenjering” emphasized that the purpose of constructing the new bridge over Port Milena was providing clearance for boat traffic.

Ulcinj – The construction of 600-meter-long double-leaf bascule bridge on Port Milena might start in October this year, announced yesterday Assistant to General Manager of Directorate of Public Works, Mr. Dusko Kokic, after presentation of the project “Port Milena” and the concept solution was designed by Belgrade-based Company “DB Inzenjering”.

He said that the Government will soon invite tenders for the most-favourable constructor and added that the funds for the implementation of the project worth 16 to 18 million Euros have already been provided for.

“The Government has introduced the new bridge on Port Milena among four other capital projects with priority, but this one went through utmost progress”, said Kokic.

The mayor Gzim Hajdinaga said that it is very important that the new bascule bridge will not interfere with buoyancy of Port Milena and added that “the bridge was our wish and the wish of all our citizens”.

“When we took over the responsibility for the project we have succeeded in changing the original plan worth several million Euros for the more quality one and at least five times more expensive project. The new project included a seven-meter-high bridge which is disassembling on its central part, while in the previous plan the planned height of the bridge was 2,5 meters”, Hajdinaga said.

While presenting the concept solution, Dusko Bobera from “DB Inzenjering” emphasized that the purpose of building the new bridge with four lanes and eight spans over Port Milena is providing clearance for boat traffic.

He said that the designer had considered three modern solutions of the future movable bridge on Port Milena. In his words, its construction complied with the project tasks, relevant legal regulations, urban and technical conditions and geodetic foundation.

“He have opted for this solution because it was more economical in terms of construction, independent building activities, visual effect but also because it occupies less space over the channel when the bridge is opening”, said Bovera. He emphasised that the designer never saw the bascule bridge separately from its surroundings.

“We considered the bridge as an integral part of the whole future complex, especially the marine”, said Bobera.

He added that “the bridge with its middle pillars in the shape of the harp indicates entrance into the future marine, providing it visually recognizable and unique aspect both in upward and downward swing position”.
