Visit-Montenegro.com: Celebration continued till daybreak

Thousands of visitors of the manifestation “Vece Susnjana” (“The night of inhabitants of Susanj”): Combination of inventiveness, modest budget and vigorous enthusiasm of the organizers produced a typical seaside festival in Bar, which attracted the largest number of visitors on one place on Bar Riviera. The purpose of this festival is to preserve cultural heritage, distinctive cuisine and local folk costumes as well as to promote this tourist settlement as an attractive and recognizable holiday destination.

Bar- “Vece Susnjana” (“The night of inhabitants of Susanj”)-the festival of fish and wine bring together thousands of people from Bar as well as the tourists from Bar Riviera. They enjoyed the authentic ambience of Susanj, the flavors of food and wine and the music of the Mediterranean. The organizers of the festival-Community Office of Bar and non-governmental organization “Susanj za Mediteran” (“Susanj for the Mediterranean”) surpassed last year premiere of the festival, in every respect. The purpose of this festival is to preserve cultural heritage, distinctive cuisine and local folk costumes as well as to promote this tourist settlement as an attractive and recognizable holiday destination.
220 liters of wine, 250 kg of mackerel and folk-cuisine specialties were offered for free on four stands, as well as in the café “Kod zednog kojota” (“At Thirsty Coyote’s”). Diligent cooks got acknowledgments- Tanja Carevic was awarded for eggplants prepared in special sauce. Ivanka Glavanovic was awarded two first prizes-for stufada (original Sardinian dish) and lokum (Turkish delight) from Susanj. Marijan Glavanovic was awarded for the excellently prepared moray in oil. In order to prepare this dish properly Marian got up at dawn, caught the moray and then, though he didn’t want for anything in the world to disclose the recipe, spent almost six hours preparing the dish. All stands with fish, wine and folk-cuisine specialties from Susanj were literally besieged by the visitors who wanted to taste patispanj (bishop’s bread), olives, cheese, priganice, etc.
To remember this night, a lot of tourists had their photographs taken with children dressed in local folk costumes. The Mayor of Bar Zarko Pavicevic and the Deputy Mayor Dragan Simovic visited the stands, as well.
“Apart from Kotor, Budva, Tivat and Petrovac, Bar also deserves to have the festival of fish and wine. We want to develop the beauty of the local sacral objects, the unique beach in Susanj, and to make famous our fish and wine, again”-said Matija Paovic, who welcomed the guests on behalf of nongovernmental organization “Susanj for the Mediterranean”.
Peso Glavanovic, the Vice-Chairman of the Community Committee of Susanj, opened the manifestation by expressing his thanks to all those who supported the organization of the event. The concert which lasted far into the night started after the keynote speech. Among the concert guests there were singers Nina Petkovic, Bojan Delic, then “Bokeski mornari” (“Mariners from Boka”), ethno band “Zora”, the poets Rajko Jolicic and Jakov Djurickovic. Darko Peric and Dubravka Paladin were show-hosts.
The prelude to the program was tug of war contest, where the team from the café “At Thirsty Coyote’s” defeated the team “Susanj”. After the concert, the visitors continued the celebration till early in the morning, in the cafe “At Thirsty Coyote’s”, where fish, wine, beer, mussels and olives were offered for free, all night long.
The organizers of the event expressed their gratitude to the local authorities and to the Mayor Zarko Pavicevic, who lives in Susanj. This project was also supported by Port of Bar, “Nimont”, “Keka”, “Porcelanosa”, “Adria tours”, hotel “Val”, “Mir-plast”, “Drugi Decembar”, “GMG”, “Auditron”, Udruzenje ribara “Juzni Jadran” (Fishermen's Association “South Adriatic”), etc.
