Visit-Montenegro.com: Entire Budva on “Titanic”

City Theatre: German artists thrilled the audience, Predrag Crnkovic, the author of the novel “Belgrade for the deceased” will appear on the stage: German “Titanic”, one of the most spectacular street theatres, will be remembered this summer by humorous, satirical spectacle inspired by Homer’s “Odyssey”. This spectacle lasted almost two hours, showing the wonders of the modern pyrotechnics, masks, costumes, scenes, ... which were “popping up” from the huge theatre semi-trailer truck, bringing to life bizarreness of the modern world. The novel “Belgrade for the deceased” was awarded by the Croatian publishing company VBZ, as the best unpublished novel. Predrag Crnkovic, the author, says that he wrote this novel “because of the therapeutic reasons – in order to free himself from some bad feelings.” The light motives of the book are the tragic consequences of the infernal 90s in Serbia, to which Crnkovic metaphorically refers to as “deathlike”.

Budva – One of the most spectacular street theatres, German “Titanic”, will be remembered this summer as the most visited show of the festival “City Theatre”. Humorous, satirical spectacle inspired by Homer’s “Odyssey”, moved to modern times, managed to gather almost entire Budva in front of the Old City. Members of the audience (among which famous director Blagota Erakovic), tourists from abroad and children took part in the humorous performance which preceded the show. This spectacle lasted almost two hours, showing the wonders of the modern pyrotechnics, masks, costumes, scenes, ... which were “popping up” from the huge theatre semi-trailer truck, bringing to life bizarreness of the modern world. Audience in Budva was delighted with the guests from Germany (just like ten years ago) and gave them tremendous ovations.
Presenting the authors from the region and new works of the publishing production, Square of Poets with its opening night – the promotion of the monograph “Zenith 1921-1926” dedicate to one of the most avant-garde magazines in this area from the beginning of the XX century which was the reason of its ban – suggested to the audience that this year they will be offered committed program.
Following that concept, after one of the most famous Croatian authors and columnist Renato Baretic, guest from Ljubljana Goran Vojnovic, whose book “Juznjaci, mars” stirred Slovenian audience, Vladimir Pistalo, who won NIN reward for his novel “Tesla, portret medju maskama”(“Tesla, a portrait among the masks”), Dragan Radulovic, one of the most important Montenegrin authors – Predrag Crnkovic, the author of the hit novel “Belgrade for the deceased” will appear on the stage tonight, at 9 o’clock p.m. on the Poet’s square.
This novel was awarded by the Croatian publishing company VBZ, as the best unpublished novel, and the decision was made by the jury consisting of Miljenko Jerkovic (chairman), Zoran Feric, Julijana Matanovic, Strahimir Primorac and Vladimir Arsenijevic. The light motives of the book are the tragic consequences of the infernal 90s in Serbia, to which Crnkovic metaphorically refers to as “deathlike”, and through the main character he tells us about collective traumatic feelings and events.
“Beograd za pokojnike”(“Belgrade for the deceased”)consists of thirteen chapters (with an addition of the postmodern introduction, auto poetic epilogue and science – fiction satirical appendix, as esteemed by the Croatian critics), and behind this not so joyful title, in the words of Zoran Feric, “is hidden very well written novel about the depressive after-war period in Belgrade, permanent existential crisis, identifying the circumstances in Serbia, foreign workers, pensioners, “well off ladies” and all the after-war Belgrade’s “fauna”. The author himself says that he wrote this novel “because of the therapeutic reasons – in order to free himself from some bad feelings.”
So far, Predrag Crnkovic has published more than twenty stories (some of which were awarded in Serbia, and on the competition organized by the Croatian”Vecernjak” in 2007 he was shortlisted with the story “The writer, theorist and the episodist”), essays, criticism of the poetry (some of them published under a pseudonym), and he, also, writes in several languages. Recently, he has published the novel “Carapanke sa Zvezdare”, as the first book in the new edition of “Knjigomata”.
The interview with Crnkovic is conducted by Dragan Radulovic on the Square of Poets.
