Budva- A fourty-day cultural offer of this year’s City Theatre, metaphorically presented by Oscar Wild’s words” I can believe anything, provided that it is quite incredible”, is brought to a close tonight with the Canadian performance “Utopian Floes”.
The famous “Caravan Stage Tall Ship Theatre” from Kingston (established in 1970, as a puppet show theatre, it soon became a major theatrical organization with a company of actors, musicians, artists and acrobats), which was put on the map by its performing at the World Theatre Festival in Toronto, will be a guest performer. The Caravan now tours its innovative theatrical productions on the deck of the ship “Amara Zee” (which means The Heart of the Sea Goddess). The design of this ship is based on the traditional Thames River Sailing Barge and it is equipped with modern light and sound system, hydraulics and generators. The “Caravan Stage Tall Ship Theatre” is able to tour in any waterway and perform on any location.
Canadian artists will introduce themselves to the audience in Budva with the performance “Utopian Floes”. The story is set in a future space-zone in a time of planetary desecration, in a time of planetary fantasy where only a few members of the surviving Earthling species still exist. These Earthlings were forced to escape from their social millieu and their historical epoch. The play is written and directed by Paul Kirby, inspired and designed by Adriana Kelder and the music is composed by Janet Warrington. It will be performed on the ship anchored in the Port of Budva tonight at 10 pm .
“We are satisfied with this year’s festival, despite the difficulties caused by the current financial situation which affected all cultural events”- Merin Smailagic, the director of Public Enterprise “Grad teatar” (City Thatre), said.
“The audience expressed interest in all performances within the festival, so was the case with the media as well, and the quality of the programs won recognition at numerous festivals in the region. All this gives us the right to say that the City Theatre was and still is one of the leading cultural addresses in Montenegro”-Smailagic highlighted.
There were twelve performances-Montenegrin and foreign-on the festival.
Four street theatre performances were staged-by the French theater group “Malabar”, which opened the 23d "City Theatre", then, by famous Australian “Strange Fruit”, German “Titanic” and Canadian “Caravan”.
