Visit-Montenegro.com: Libraries and the Future

The Central National Library of Montenegro at the World Library and Information Congress: 75th IFLA General Conference and Assembly in Milan. The aim of the conference was to inform librarians from all quarters of the world about the contemporary accomplishments in the field of library activity and information service and their irreplaceable role in building, protecting and presenting cultural heritage.

Cetinje-The Central National Library of Montenegro Đurđe Crnojević was one of the participants at the 75th Conference of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) which took place 23-27 August 2009, in Milan.

At this prestigious international conference, whose this-year theme was "Libraries create futures: Building on cultural heritage", the Montenegrin library was represented by its Director Jelena Đurović.

IFLA was founded after the World War I, in Edinburgh in 1927, at an international conference, whereas the name of the association was adopted in 1929 in Roma. Until 1939 there were 41 associations that were members of IFLA.

IFLA members are librarian associations and related associations, libraries, similar institutions and individuals. At the moment IFLA has over 1800 members from approximately 150 countries around the world. IFLA is seated in the Netherlands.

The aim of the conference in Milan was to inform librarians from all quarters of the world about contemporary accomplishments in the field of library activity and information service and their irreplaceable role in building, protecting and presenting cultural heritage. During the IFLA conference, in the historic Sforza Castle (Castello Sforzesco) 36th CDNL annual meeting took place. At this conference, which Jelena Đurović also attended, annual reports on work of the national libraries and reports on activities of CDNL for the last year were presented. Also there were discussions on the national libraries global status.
