Djukanović returns
Montenegro’s longest-serving politician, Milo Djukanović, will return to power once again to become the country’s new prime minister, the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) said Wednesday.
The former Prime Minister, Željko Št ur a nović, resigned last week due to his battle with lu ng cancer. As Montenegro’s first post-indepen dence prime minister, Št ur a nović said his rigorous treatment would not allow him to continue leading the country.
The nomination of Djukanović is likely to be accepted by Parliament, however, which is dominated by DPS lawmakers. Djukanović had already ruled Montenegro as both president and prime minister before he receded from active politics when the country gained its independence in 2006.
