Restore the Beach at Becici
A Request of the Public Enterprise „Morsko dobro” to the Regional Water Supply Company
Budva – „Morsko dobro" called on the Regional water supply company yesterday to restore Becici-beach to its' previous state, as it had been destroyed during the company’s pipe-laying activities.
Reaction of “Morsko dobro” came after the protests of local hotels. Company has concluded that the laying of pipes across the Becici-beach, which had been conducted by Regional water supply company, caused “a dramatic change in its’ original outlook, also causing mixing of sand and dugout soil.”
Revolt with the new outlook of the beach in Becici has sparked an initial reaction of hotel company “The Queen of Montenegro”, which is also a lease-holder for this “Blue Flag” awarded beach. Company also warned it would seek Euro 50,000 in reparations from “Morsko dobro” for the damage inflicted.
“Following the works at the water supply system, Becici beach is covered with and mood, it has not been levelled and concrete sewage-lids are visible. For these reasons, it is no longer a quality regulated beach, which is its’ main function during the season”, the statement of “Morsko dobro” reads. It adds that this state of the beach has sparked justified reactions of local hotels, tourist agencies, citizens and lease-holders.
“During these works, ‘Morsko dobro’ has repeatedly addressed the Regional water supply company, as an investor. We have received strong assurances that the problems would be resolved in the shortest term possible and that the original outlook of the beach would be restored. Given the fact that the season is already well underway, we expect the Regional water supply company to respect its’ commitments and do everything possible to eliminate consequences of its’ works at the regional water supply system”, statement of “Morsko dobro” company concludes.
The building of the northern arm of the water supply pipeline to Budva has been completed on 22 May. The works had been conducted by “Integral Inzenjering” company, which had to dig through 1,500 meters of Becici beach in order to lay down the pipes.
