Visit-Montenego.com : Ivancevic - Number of Guests Smaller in Comparison to 2007

Badly prepared season, construction works which are still underway and overall ambience, which is far from tourist-friendly, are causing decrease in the number of visitors these days, Director of “Queen of Montenegro” hotel, Dragan Ivancevic stated yesterday.

Budva (MINA-BUSINESS) – Badly prepared season, construction works which are still underway and overall ambience, which is far from tourist-friendly, are causing decrease in the number of visitors these days, Director of “Queen of Montenegro” hotel, Dragan Ivancevic stated yesterday.

He told news agency Mina-Business that he did not know if the data claiming that the number of tourists had increased by five percent were accurate, explaining that his hotel had less guests than had been the case over the past couple of years.

“Guests are being welcomed by unprepared infrastructure – all a result of badly prepared season”, Ivancevic says.

He adds that his hotel, which is a four-star categorized object, notes bad capacity-use, poor booking and cancellations from tour-operators.

“We have problems with our partners who had lost faith in us, the reason being badly prepared season”, Ivancevic maintains.

“These days, we are hearing comments about sustainable development. We find that this is the type of development which we cannot stand”, Ivancevic states.

He claims that the situation marking the beginning of the season would continue till its’ very end and that the number of guests would be significantly smaller in comparison to the last year.

“Impression is that the number of tourists in Montenegro during June had decreased in comparison to the same period last year. Key-reason for such situation could be the increase of prices in all segments”, MP of Pokret za Promjene party (Movement for Changes, PzP), Milos Bigovic maintains.

He adds that he does not believe in the officials statistics on the number of visitors which are being made public by the government, according to which the number of tourists had increased by five percent during this month.

“I doubt the accuracy of the data that will be released by the government this year, as last years’ data had also been inaccurate and adjusted to serve the purpose”, Bigovic says.

He also blames the state for the small salaries of tourist and hotel workers. Statistic data, released by “Monstat”, reads that average salary in these sectors stands at Euro 260.

“This affects the quality of our tourist offer. In such circumstances, there is no elite tourism”, Bigovic concludes.
