Kotor – One of the largest passenger-ships in the world – Opera – owned by famous Italian company “Mediterranean Shipping Cruises”, based in Geneva, will sail into Kotor today.
Beside “Opera”, fleet of this company includes other huge cruises, which have come to Kotor earlier, including: "Armonia", "Lirica", "Melody", "Rapsody", "Simfonia", "Musica” and "Orkestra".
Company plans building four more passenger-ships until 2012.
“Opera” is 251 meters long, 28 meters wide, weighs 58, 6 thousand tons and can develop speed of 21, 7 nautical miles. It has 848 cabins, which can accommodate 2,200 passenger and around 700 members of the crew.
Ship has 14 decks, nine passenger-elevators, shopping-gallery, theatre, discotheque, virtual center, three restaurants, gyms, sauna, Turkish bath, two swimming pools, mini-golf court, many bars, casino, kindergarten and mini-hospital. Value of this cruiser is US$ 100 Million.
So called “Ship of Dreams” is also known for having been ‘baptized’ by famous actress Sophia Loren in Genova.
Arrival of "Opera" to this ancient city has been arranged by “Ballon Doo” company from Kotor, which was also behind last year’s visit of ship “Orkestra”, who traveled to Kotor immediately after it has left the shipyard.
Owner of “Ballon DOO” company, Zeljko Bojanic told “Vijesti” that nine arrivals of “MSC’s” ship had been announced for the period between September and November 2009 and that there are hints that even more arrivals would occur in 2010.
“Nevertheless, it will all depend upon the agreement of the Municipality, Port of Kotor and Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Traffic and decrease of prices of various port-fees and taxes, bearing in mind that this company will arrange arrival of many of its’ ships.
At this point, all the participants in these talks have shown they had good will to negotiate, so we do hope that they would have a positive outcome”, Bojanic concluded.
