Municipality of Budva has invested Euro 600,000 into this endeavor.

Budva – With the opening of desalinization and water purification facility at Jaz – first of its’ kind in Montenegro – problems with water shortages and environmental protection at Lastva Grbaljska and surrounding costal region will be fully resolved.

Municipality of Budva has invested Euro 600,000 in this endeavor. Works have been conducted by Slovenian company “Regeneracija” DOO Vodice during the envisaged period of time, it has been stated at yesterday’s event, which marked the opening of these two facilities.

At a facility-opening ceremony, deputy president of the Municipality of Budva, Milenko Medigovic said that this project was a part of local authority’s efforts to resolve the problem with lack of tap-water an purification of waste-water and protection of environment.

Advisor with the Secretariat for Investments, Vesna Franeta emphasized that this was the first project of its’ kind in Montenegro, as it provided a facility which has the ability to produce drinking water, store it and purify waste waters.

“Significance of this project is even greater, when we have in mind that there has been a significant lack of water at Jaz area and that water stored in the tanks did not have sufficient concentration of chlorine.

Now, people have at their disposal water of high quality for drinking, which has been proved by the most recent water analysis which we have conducted”, Franeta stated.

Director of company “Regeneracija – Montenegro”, Petar Tomsic emphasized that the sea water desalinization had daily capacity of 100 cubic meters.

“Capacity of waste water purification facility is 1,000 population or household units per day. Bearing in mind how this area works, this capacity can be increased during the summer season when there is a larger need for water and it can be decreased during the winter period.

In this manner, facility will have optimal mode of functioning. With purification of water, which is, then, returned to nature, we are protecting this coastal and sea area”, Tomscic stated.

Facility Will Produce 100 Cubic Meters of Water a Day

Facility for purification of waste water can process 14, 4 cubic meters of community waste waters per hour.

Purification of water has three stages – mechanical purification, biological purification and UV disinfection.

Program equipment used provides the possibility of regulating of capacity during season and our-of-season period, which makes this process economically feasible.

At its’ exit, facility provides water purified by 98 percent. This facility can easily be moved to another location, if the situation requires such action.

Facility ¬for the production of drinking water has the capacity of 100 cubic meters per day.

First part of the process includes ultra-filtration, which removes parasites, bacterial, viruses and colloids, which is then followed by desalinization of water.

Such purified water is, than, disinfected with Sodium Hypochlorite and stored in the reservoir, from which it is distributed to the users.

Analysis has shown that this water has good quality.
